Gotta Love Delays

Ready….set…..delayed?

It wasn’t the start I was hoping for, but I guess this is what makes memories.

I met with my four traveling companions at the Minneapolis Airport this morning. We chatted away about our summers, excitements and worries.

Everything was great, everything was going according to plan. All of our luggage passed the under 50 pound test, TSA didn’t give anyone trouble and everyone remembered their passport.

But then, Washington-Dulles happened…

The five of us made it to our connecting flight in IAD. We boarded our United flight like 5 year olds who climb aboard a school bus for a field trip.

We were buzzing with emotions, but those happy, excited emotions drifted away and impatience took over.

Twenty minutes of no news and no wheels rolling away from the jet bridge turned to thirty minutes… then forty minutes.

Finally, we were informed that our plane had engine oil issues that needed to be resolved.

While this was annoying information to the passengers, we also acknowledged that fixing the problem was a pretty big necessity.

So we waited patiently.

But then it got worse.

Already facing an 1.5 hour delay stuck in our crammed airplane seats, the flight attendants informed us that a storm in our flight path was delaying our take-off even longer.

Groans sounded through the plane to say the least.

Now we had a total of a 2.5 hour delay under our belts and (to be dramatic) I was hungry.

But this is what memories are made of!

To look on the bright side, I was able to get some of my 10,000 steps in making laps around the plane. I also finished watching an entire movie during the delay.

Putting that mishap aside, we are now finally getting ready for take-off.

Adios amigos! Hasta la vista en Barcelona!
